Nursing Home Workers are Voting Yes!

On Thursday, January 7th, workers at 18 Oregon Nursing Homes joined thousands of public workers in stickering up for the campaign to VOTE YES on Measures 66 an 67. Across Oregon, workers who will be directly affected by State-proposed cuts wore stickers to remind each other and the general public that ballots would be mailed the next day and it is time to VOTE YES!

The stickers were a reminder of what we have to lose if these measures do not pass. Nursing home workers could face layoffs and hours reductions due to low census if these measures do not pass and the State implements the other $18 million worth of cuts proposed last spring. Over 5000 seniors could be dropped from long-term care (including nursing homes), leaving facilities scrambling to fill beds. When census goes down, fewer aides are needed on shift; Medication Aides, housekeeping, dietary & laundry workers face reductions in hours, needing to perform the same amount of work in fewer hours.

Thursday’s sticker messages highlighted what’s at stake: “save our schools” and “protect our vital services” were the messages plastered across Oregon that day.
