Because you are represented by SEIU 503, you have rights at work. Our ability to enforce these rights – along with our ability to fight for better wages and benefits – is built on the strength of our membership. When more people choose to stick together in union, we put ourselves in a position of strength.
As a union member, you have the right to:
- Protection against unfair discipline.
- Just cause – you can’t be fired without a reason.
- Weingarten rights – representation when you need it.
- And much more.
Understanding and exercising your rights is an important part of union membership. Rights are like muscles: If you don’t exercise them, you could lose them.
If you think you’ve been mistreated at work or that your rights under the contract have been violated, please call the Member Assistance Center at 1-844-503-SEIU (7348).
My Union Protections FAQ
SEIU 503 members have joined together for years to build a strong voice for working people—and nowhere is that more clear than when it comes to workplace protections. As a union worker, you are protected from unfair discipline (including unfair termination), and you have a right to union representation. See below for some of the most frequently asked questions about your union workplace protections.Learn More
An important part of your Union contract is a provision that says the employer may not discipline or discharge a worker unless there is “just cause.” If you believe you have been disciplined or terminated without just cause, you should contact your union steward for assistance. If your steward believes the discipline may have been without just cause, they will assist you in filing a grievance.Learn More
