As you may have heard, today the Trump administration officially published its proposed “public charge” rule that could impact access to essential services like health care for some Oregon immigrant communities. It is important to know that the rule has not yet changed, and eligibility criteria for our programs have not changed.

SEIU members looking for resources related to the rule should see the materials put together by the Department of Human Services/Oregon Health Authority, which are available in English and Spanish.

SEIU members across the county are pushing back on this proposal. If you wish to participate in that work, please visit SEIU.org/TakeCharge. Public comments on the rule can be made until December 10, 2018.

In addition, The New York Times and The Washington Post have published helpful op-eds about the proposed rule.
