Mail Your Ballot Before March 10
Just a quick reminder that it’s time to vote in your sublocal leadership elections, and the voting deadline is almost here. Ballots are due back before March 10, 2026. If you have any questions, email elections@seiu503.org or call the Member Assistance Center at 844-503-7348, or visit the Elections FAQ webpage.
Ballots will only be accepted by postal mail. Your ballot packet contains a pre-paid return envelope for you to use – please do not drop off your ballot at an SEIU office or at the address listed on the return envelope. You are encouraged to mail it back right away to ensure it arrives before the voting deadline. If you’ve already mailed your ballot, you are taking an active part in making your union stronger.
Legislative Session Ends Today – Here’s What We Know
Oregon’s 2026 “short” legislative session is likely to conclude today. Federal budget cuts resulting in a nearly $1 billion state budget deficit and immigration actions impacted communities around our state have made this short session full of action. SEIU members answered the call and were able to deliver key victories. Here’s what we’ve done so far:
- Led a coalition that helped Oregon disconnect from the most egregious new federal tax cuts for the ultra wealthy and megacorporations, preserving about $300 million in state funding to prevent layoffs and deeper cuts to state agencies.
- Filled ODOT’s $289 million budget gap to prevent further layoffs through 2027
- Helped pass an Immigration Justice package
We’ll have a full update on session soon and the May Primary Election is fast approaching, so stay tuned!

Beware of Misleading Mailers
Have you gotten one of these mailers and/or emails from “Opt Out Today” lately? They are trying to make you believe they stand up for Oregon workers, but the truth is, they are an anti-worker organization funded by wealthy corporations who want nothing more than to take away workers’ rights and your ability to bargain great contracts.
Opt Out Today, also known as the Freedom Foundation, is afraid of unions and afraid of worker power. They know that when workers stop paying dues, they limit collective bargaining power and the ability to win strong contracts. Without strong contracts, employers can get away with lower wages and working conditions. Why would any pro-worker organization invest so much time and money trying to whittle down worker power?
If you see one of these Opt Out Today anti-worker postcards in your mailbox, plop it into your recycling bin – don’t give up your membership and don’t give up your power.
It’s Women’s History Month
Women’s History Month is a time to honor the role women have played in shaping this country and to recognize that women’s leadership has always powered the fight for fairness, safety, and economic security. Women’s history isn’t separate from today’s struggles; it’s the foundation of them.
For generations, women have organized, cared, built, and led — often while being underpaid, underestimated, and excluded from power. And the injustices continue: persistent wage gaps, attacks on reproductive freedom, workplace harassment, and the devaluation of our work.
At a moment when rights are being rolled back and protections weakened, this month is more than reflection; it’s a call to action. Honor women workers. Confront injustice. Fight for equal pay, strong unions, safe workplaces, and dignity on the job. The future women are building is collective and the work to secure it isn’t finished.
Indigenous People’s Caucus Re-Launch!
The SEIU 503 Indigenous Peoples Caucus (IPC) is relaunching! To celebrate, IPC will host a regional meet and greet on Saturday, April 4 from 2pm-4pm at the Ko-Kwel Casino in Coos Bay.
The IPC amplifies the collective experiences, histories, and ongoing struggles of Indigenous peoples within our union and is committed to decolonization, celebrating Indigenous culture and knowledge, and uplifting one another across tribal affiliation, geography, and national origin.
This gathering is intended for Indigenous members and allies committed to supporting Indigenous communities, and will offer space to connect in person, learn more about the caucus, and build community across the region. Register today!
Help Albertina Kerr Workers Win a Fair Contract
Workers at Albertina Kerr, a Portland-based nonprofit providing mental health and developmental disability services, are currently in the midst of a high-stakes push for their first union contract.
For over a year, our union has been ready to secure a contract that protects our members and their families. While we have clearly defined our needs for safe staffing, better wages and a safe work environment, management’s continued stalling has prevented a timely resolution. It is time for management to address these outstanding points and finalize this contract.
Take a moment to help send a message to Albertina Kerr management. Tell them to stop the delay and settle a fair contract.
