This weekend many Oregonians will be voting in the January 23 special election on healthcare. At issue is Measure 101, a fee on hospitals and insurance companies that will fund Medicaid for 1 million Oregonians, including 400,000 children, who rely on the program for healthcare.

SEIU Local 503 is proud to join a coalition of more than 160 organizations endorsing a YES on Measure 101. Voting YES will:

  • Protect funding for Medicaid
  • Protect healthcare coverage for 1 million people, including 400,000 kids
  • Protect healthcare for homecare workers, personal support workers, and consumers on the Oregon Health Plan
  • Protect the state budget from yet another revenue crisis and prevent cuts that could impact state, local government, and university workers
  • Protect funding for 20,000 healthcare jobs in hospitals, assisted living facilities, and in-home care and personal support work

SEIU members understand the stakes are high on Measure 101, and we’re hitting the streets to talk to our neighbors and make sure everyone knows to vote YES by January 23.

“I believe that healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Measure 101 will protect healthcare for the woman I provide in-home support to. Without Medicaid she could lose her independence — and I could lose my job. That’s why I’m asking you to vote YES on Measure 101.”

– Nancy Finerty, Homecare worker, The Dalles

The last time we had revenue shortfall, Julie Parrish, one of the key opponents of Measure 101, called for cuts to SEIU members’ healthcare plans. You can bet she will do the same thing again if Measure 101 fails. Voting YES on 101 protects the state budget and protects SEIU members from cuts.”

I’m voting yes because I know what it’s like to have nothing to fall back on. Without healthcare coverage, many Oregonians are one accident or diagnosis away from bankruptcy.”

SEIU members have turned out in a big way to support Measure 101. Now it’s all about getting every single person to vote. Every vote counts.
