Our SEIU 503 Indigenous Peoples Caucus will be participating in the MMIWC2S movement event in solidarity with Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirits, grieving families, and individuals working on the frontlines to end this epidemic of violence against Indigenous people. This event is being hosted by Minneapolis group, Native Women Running, and proceeds will go to Native Women’s Association of Canada. You can register for our event on Facebook here.
On behalf of our caucus, we would like to extend our appreciation for joining our Quetzalcoatl team. We know some of you will be participating in your local areas, at your own pace, in your own way. Thank you!
For those of you who plan to join our caucus in Salem for our in-person walk, here are the details:
NEW Location: Bush Pasture Park (600 Mission St SE, Salem, OR 97302) – There is a large parking lot on Mission St.
Day/Time: Saturday, May 7th, at 9:30am for check in (program begins right at 10:00am and ends at 12:00pm)
Family and friends are welcome! 🙂
Please Bring:
Your MMIW t-shirt. If you registered before April 1st, the organization hosting this event has mailed t-shirts out and should have already arrived. If you registered after April 1st, your t-shirt would arrive after May 7th, so we encourage you to wear red, any red item, and/or bring banners, posters, etc. Why red? In many tribes, red is known to be the only color that spirits see. By wearing red, many hope to call back the spirits of missing spirits.
The weather may be chilly and with some rain, so bring along your layers –rain jackets, umbrellas, etc.
We will have N-95 masks and COVID-19 rapid tests on site.
We will also have light snacks and water during this event.
If you have any questions regarding the in-person event, please reach out to us at indigenouscmtemembers@seiu503.org or text Nicthe Verdugo at 541-816-9291.
