State workers saw bigger paychecks this year because we stood together and fought to win them – collectively earning $4.4 billion last fiscal year, $500 million more in the pockets of workers over the previous year.
According to The Oregonian, the median pay for full-time employees rose by more than $8,000 from the year before. And we’re not done. SEIU state workers will receive 2.5% cost-of-living increases in February and another 4% in January 2027.
These wins were hard fought. Members across the state engaged in worksite actions and showed solidarity with their co-workers. Our bargaining teams spent countless hours at the table to secure these contracts. Members spoke to legislators to advocate for the funding necessary for these strong contracts and showed up to rally to show our power when we come together in one place. This is worker power, and this is the union difference.
Federal action and a weakened economy have shifted Oregon’s budget from historically strong contracts to cuts and many unknowns. We’ll need to enter into the new year with the same resolve that helped us secure these big wins.
Take this time to rest, enjoy the company of family and friends, and get ready for a busy year.
