President Joe Biden on Thursday signed a bill making Juneteenth, or June 19th, the country’s 12th federal holiday. Oregon’s Legislature also voted to make Juneteenth and state holiday beginning in 2022.

Juneteenth  is a celebration of the emancipation of African-Americans from slavery in the U.S. and marks the date that enslaved people in Texas were given notice that the Civil War had ended and slavery had been abolished.
