After months of tough negotiations, SEIU Local 503 members at the City of Cannon Beach reached a tentative agreement on April 27, 2021. This three-year contract includes raises of 4.5%, 2%, and 2%, respectively, and a new incentive program for employees with Water and Wastewater certifications that allows members to earn as much as 9% in additional compensation (knows as differentials) for holding particular certifications. Workers also won a guaranteed minimum 5% increase when taking on significantly more challenging work.

This win wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of dedicated members on the bargaining team. Each of these members played a key role in securing this agreement by researching comparable union contracts, keeping their coworkers updated and engaged through the entire bargaining process, and by going above and beyond to engage coworkers in the bargaining process. With nearly 90% of City of Cannon Beach employees completing bargaining surveys, it is clear that this win is a strong example of what is possible when we unite and speak up for ourselves and each other.
