For years, long-term care workers in Oregon have faced low pay, short staffing, high turnover, and substandard benefits. But that’s all changing, as hundreds of caregivers join the thousands who are already members of SEIU Local 503.
Just in the past few months, hundreds of new union members at dozens of long-term care facilities across the state have joined the union. Together they have won the highest CNA pay in the country, high-quality affordable health care for workers and their whole families, strong contract language to enforce staffing ratios and to protect workers from mandation, a guaranteed pay scale that respects seniority, and a career ladder all the way from entry-level up through LPN.
