Tuition hikes and cuts to low-wage workers are two-sides of the same coin

First, Oregon’s public universities raised tuition. Now they’re calling for their lowest paid employees to take a pay cut of up to $250.77 per month. Meanwhile, they’re football coaches millions per year and building shiny new buildings to attract out-of-state students.

It’s clear that top University administrators — many of whom have 6 figure salaries — are turning public universities into a business, when they should be doing everything they can to keep education accessible and to support the communities they are a part of.

We must stand together — students, graduate teaching fellow, classified staff and community members — and fight for a public University system that supports a debt-free education and good jobs for our community.
