Kathleen Lamar

Region 01: Central Valley • Marion & Polk Counties

As a Union leader for over 20 years, I have represented our members in many ways. I have been steward, chief steward, Board Assistant Director and Director, and General Council delegate. I have been a bargaining delegate at the Specials Coalition table for 10 years. I am currently the President of the Dept. of Justice sub-local, and serve on two Labor Management Committees. As a Director for the Salem area on the Board, I represent thousands of members across all sectors of our Union. I believe in transparency, integrity, and respect for our members. I intend to make sure you have a voice at the table for decisions that affect our members, whether they are from the care sector, public sector, or a private, non-profit. Each sector is an integral part of our Union, even if their needs may not always be the same. My goal as Assistant Director for Region One is to represent all members of our Union to the best of my ability.
I believe that the largest hurdle for the next two years for our Union is anti-union sentiment and propaganda. SEIU Local 503, OPEU has been a front-runner in innovative approaches for organizing, internally and externally, and is an example to most locals in the country. Although New Employee Orientation is one way to recruit new employees to be members, we have a task at hand to organize existing non-members who are currently represented. I know this is a daunting task but Local 503 will find even better ways to internally organize and bring new members to our union. As Assistant Director for Region One, I will help with this organizing effort and continue to work to make Local 503 the best Union in Oregon to belong to.
I am an experience leader within in both my sub-local and in 503. I have been on the Board for several years and hope you will continue to put your faith in me and elect me, Kathleen Lamar, to represent you as Assistant Director for Region One.
