Ivonne Rivero

Region 06: Multnomah & Clackamas • Multnomah, Clackamas, Columbia, Clark & Cowlitz (WA) Counties

Hello! My name is Ivonne Rivero and am running for re-election in 2022 as a Board Director for Region 6. I am a Homecare Worker and I live in Portland, Oregon.

I am a woman, a caregiver and an immigrant in an industry where the majority of people who perform this work share these characteristics. However numerous, they are very seldom present at the places where critical decisions about their employment -and their lives, and that of the families- take place. Our union, SEIU503 is Oregon’s largest and most powerful in this state, and half of the membership is composed by workers the Personal Care profession.

I was elected 2 years ago to this post. Being a board member has allowed me bring some of these voices to these forums and to share this work with our communities.  It has been a lot of work and an uphill learning curve.I am proud to say that despite the work there has been some important gains for our populations.

If elected, my hope is continue amplifying the voices of our workers and their diversity, within the union and in our state, defending the dignity of our work and advocating for the uplifting of our professions in Personal Care, as more and more Americans are becoming of age and will need of the services of a trained and competent -and well paid- workforce. It is no surprise that many parts of society and even public officials have an erroneous – or incomplete idea- of our work and our lives, our hopes and  challenges, for us and for our families and the people we care for.

The work of unions has never been as important as the present moment, when we face the challenges of living and working in the era of COVID.

I would like to ask once again for your vote, for a vote of confidence to continue my work and vision to bring about the changes needed in our work and in our union.
