At the SEIU Local 503 General Council held on August 9-11, 2018, General Council delegates voted to revise the Bylaws to create two Statewide Vice President offices:
- Vice President employed by a public employer (State, Local Government, Higher Education)
- Vice President who is employed in any other sector represented by the Union
The General Council delegates resolved that: Following the 2018 election of statewide officers, a special election for a second vice president will be held as soon as reasonably possible. Eligibility of candidates shall be based on the outcome of the Vice President election. (SEIU 503 Bylaws, Article XV, Section 5(t))
During the 2018-2020 Statewide Officer Election, a Client-Employed Provider (Homecare) member was elected as Vice President. Therefore, any SEIU 503 active or semi-active member in good standing employed by a public employer (State, Local Government, Higher Education) may run for office in this
Special Vice President Election. Any active, semi-active, staff or retiree member is eligible to nominate an eligible candidate.
