On October 1, workers at Volare, EmpRes, Prestige, and Sapphire nursing homes will see Cost of Living Adjustments in their paychecks. Our union bargaining team negotiated these COLAs in our last union contract, based on increases in Medicaid reimbursement rates. Under pressure from union workers’ action and solidarity, the nursing homes agreed to pass on $2.11 per hour of this rate increase to workers. Non-union nursing home owners just pocket rate increases, it is only because of the strength of our union that we won part of it for ourselves.
