The following statement is from SEIU 503’s Latinx Caucus:
El mes de la herencia Latinx se celebra anualmente desde el día 15 de septiembre al día 15 de octubre. Es un mes para dar reconocer el espíritu inquebrantable y honrar las historias, las culturas y contribuciones que se han aportado.
A lo largo de nuestra historia hemos tenido muchos héroes y movimientos sociales que han contribuido a la lucha de nuestros derechos humanos, entre ellos han sido los lideres que han contribuido a nuestra independencia, no solamente en México sino en cada uno de nuestros países. Dedicamos este mes a honrar nuestras luchas de independencia y resistencia en contra de la explotación de los pueblos y trabajadores del América del Norte, Centro América, Sur América, y el Caribe.
Como miembros del Concilio Latinx de SEIU503, nosotros reconocemos que somos parte de este legado y parte de esos movimientos sociales de diferentes formas. Algunos somos activistas que atienden las marchas para salarios justos o los derechos de inmigrantes, algunos somos organizadores que coordinan movilizaciones populares, algunos somos trabajadores que abogan y damos servicios que permite que la gente pueda vivir con dignidad, así mismo cada una de las personas que apoyamos la lucha por los derechos humanos.
Es por eso que en este mes damos honor y reconocimiento a cada uno de estos personajes que abrieron la brecha y comenzaron este difícil camino que el día de hoy nos da la oportunidad de seguir y continuar con el legado de la lucha por los derechos humanos. HONOR A QUIEN HONOR MERECE.
Latinx Heritage Month is celebrated yearly starting September 15 until October 15. It is a month for acknowledging our unbreakable spirit and honoring the histories, cultures, and contributions that have already been made.
Throughout our history, we have had many heroes and social movements that have advanced our fight for human rights, among them leaders who have brought about our independence not just in Mexico but in every single one of our countries. We dedicate this month to honor our struggles for independence and our resistance against the exploitation of the people and workers of North, Central, and South America including the Caribbean.
As members of SEIU503’s Latinx Caucus, we recognize that we are part of that legacy and a part of these social movements in different ways. Some of us are activists who go to marches for liveable wages or immigrant rights. Some of us are organizers who coordinate collective action. Some of us do work where we advocate and provide services that allow people to live with dignity. Each and every one of us supports the fight for human rights.
For these reasons, we acknowledge and honor everyone who opened the way and started the difficult road that we have the opportunity to follow and continue the legacy of fighting for human rights. HONOR IS DUE TO THOSE WHO DESERVE HONOR.
