Qualifications: 1- Homecare Council member for 10 years; 2- active on the Bargaining Team 2009-2011, 2013-2015, and 2018-2020; 3- 2014 to COVID organized one meeting a month in five communities in Washington County for Homecare and Personal Support Workers; and 4- Women’s Council four years. Additionally: 1- A CAPE member for 12 years, interviewing candidates and door knocking to elect them; 2- 2019 attended the Labor Network for Sustainability Conference on the Green New Deal, an all-union national conference; 3- 2009 contacted non-unionized Personal Support Workers with the help of External Department; 4- 2009 U-Lead (Labor Education and Research Center) Graduate; 5- 2010 Western Regional Summer Institute for Union Women; 6- 2008-2020 a Steward; and 7- attended 503 Board meetings for 12 years and learned much. I am running for Assistant Director to be a part of accomplishing the below goals: 1- to enable more people to have a more effective voice at the bargaining table; 2- to confidently speak truth to power: about climate chaos, increasing inadequate wages; improving working conditions; solving waste issues which take money from our wages; and encouraging broader member participation in caucuses; 3- to continue steps to rectify issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in member leadership to reflect member populations; and 4- to confidently change rich corporations and individuals tax rates to be equivalent to everyday workers’ earnings. All of the above make us a powerful force for change. Region 7 goals: 1- Developing focus groups for English-as-a-second-language speakers; 2- increase coordinated member advocacy to the legislature; and 3- discover reasons for public employees, care sector workers, and their communities to come together across locals with the same vision enabling cross-county coordination on projects. The biggest single issue we will face is undoing messes the current national presidency has inflicted on Oregon. Process to rectify them: 1- ask deep questions of afflicted rank-and-file members about what their specific dilemmas are and what they need us to do to solve them; 2- involve statewide organizations with the know-how to implement processes that start creating their needed realities; 3- be open to not-currently-understood processes to solve issues. Professions/organizations which have developed and honed skills and capacities: 1- Toastmaster 2011-2013, responsible for the duties of Sergeant at Arms, Vice President Membership, and Vice President Education; 2- a Community Health Worker as of 2013; and 3- member of Oregon Community Health Workers Association;
