Hi, my name is Cristal DeJarnac, I’ve been a HomeCare Worker in Central Oregon for my best-friend for 5 years now, in the past I have also taken care of my mom, my mother-in-law, and my late husband. I‘ve seen the need for people to be able to continue living in their own homes with Dignity and Respect, I’ve been immensely proud to help make that possible for them. I became a member and got involved with our Union in 2016 because I know how important Unions are for protecting both workers and our consumer/clients too. It all started with phone-banking on Measure 101. Since then I; • serve as HomeCare Council District 5 Director since September 2018-Current • lead HomeCare New Employee Orientations and monthly Regional meetings in 5 cities throughout Central Oregon and Burns, where we have increased our member participation • successfully encourage new Care-providers to join SEIU and mentor new member leaders • completed the Member Leadership Development Program • became a Steward and help members resolve their issues • serve on our CAPE Council Political Action Board, and have done canvassing, attended Lobby Days, Rally’s and other Actions • serve on the current HomeCare Bargaining Team • serve on 2018-2020 Board of Directors • joined the Indigenous Caucus and Women’s Council • worked with our Union on “Unions for all” • currently serve on the National HomeCare Action Team with our SEIU International Union • currently serve on 2 statewide Workgroups with the Oregon HomeCare Commission I know our State’s revenue situation is uncertain and know they will once again come after our Program to balance the budget. I don’t want to see this happen and I want to fight against it. Besides being a Caregiver I have a very diverse background and have worked in the corporate and private realms for over 30 years, which means that I have a lot of different experience to bring to the table. I love being able to work for and represent our members and I want to continue to do the work to “Rise Up HomeCare”.
