Scott Conover

I am Scott Conover and being a lifelong Oregonian, I am committed to this state and to this union. I submit my candidacy for the role of Director for Region 1 on the Board of Directors. I am a Systems Analyst with the Office of Information Services (OIS), which provides Information Technology (IT) services as a Shared Service to DHS/OHA. My primary role is as a software developer, writing software in support of provisioning shared services. I am a Local 200 Bargaining Delegate, General Council Delegate, Sub Local 218 Treasurer and SEIU 503 Union Steward. As a Union Steward, I specialize in Contract Enforcement, focusing on Contracting Out, as well as issues related to Vendor Management, Contractor Management and Labor Rights. I was the representative for Labor for the interview process for the OIS Chief Information Officer (CIO). With Farrell Hopkins, former 218 Chair and Marilou Webb, current 218 Chair, we are working to develop a process with OIS Executive Management to provide union workers with opportunities to fulfill short-term, smaller scope contract opportunities which are often filled by contractors. I am seeking this office so that the economic interests of our members is our priority. Success of our union comes first. The economic interest of members is threatened on all sides, not only from our foes who seek to undermine our economic unity, but by circumstances as well, including a health crisis that is resulting in catastrophic economic impact. However, we, the represented staff, are the solution, not the problem in this crisis. My goals are enhanced economic prosperity and security for the region, as well as for SEIU 503 as a whole, and I believe the path to this is through the skill and talent of our union workers. This is the single biggest issue we will face as a union. All other things follow from there. If we do not have positions, there is no future for us, and no way to ensure our goals of social and economic justice. To fulfill our goals, we must not only survive, but thrive. This is the issue I intend to tackle as the Director of Region 1, and I intend to tackle with the help of my fellow Directors. And together, we shall overcome all odds and secure our own future, as well as the future of Oregon.
