Avery Horton

VOTE AVERY HORTON 503 PRESIDENT. “ASK NOT WHAT MEMBERS CAN DO FOR 503 – ASK WHAT 503 CAN DO FOR ITS MEMBERS.” Did you join 503 because of its stance on abortion, homelessness, climate change, Black Lives Matter, immigration, social justice platforms, and liberal agendas? -OR- Did you join 503 because you thought 503 would get workers better compensation, better working conditions and have your back when you needed help with work problems? Workers join unions because of what the union can do for them, not the other way around. 503 leadership has forgotten that. Were you led to believe that SEIU is non-partisan politically when 99% of its political contributions go to Democrats? Are you tired of seeing 503 using your dues to support candidates, ballot measures, and platforms that make your skin crawl and are in opposition to your personal beliefs? Do you feel 503 spends too much time focusing on world issues rather than on workplace issues? Do you feel 503 leaders represent your beliefs or try to cram their beliefs down your throat? Do 503 leaders listen to you or do they make you listen to them? 503 pledged $50,000 of your dues to the Movement for Black Lives instead of using that money to buy masks and gloves for its members. 503 has given millions of dollars of dues to Our Oregon, which is under investigation. Did that money benefit members in the workplace? ALL BLAME, NO SOLUTIONS. 503 membership has been shrinking for the last 2 years. 503 leaders point to the Janus decision and blame anti-union organizations as the cause rather than looking in the mirror and taking responsibility for 503’s failings. 503 is good at pointing fingers and blaming others. 503 is good at “messaging” and “spin” to sway members. When you pull back the “purple curtain”, you see 503 for what it is: A socialist political action group that masquerades as a union. Workers join unions to unite yet 503 has a laundry list of caucuses that divides members instead of uniting all members for the reasons workers join a union. Union Sisters and Brothers, you have a chance to take your union back and get 503 back on track by voting for Avery Horton as 503 President and Holly Garland as Executive Director. Help Holly and I help you by encouraging 503 members to vote in this election. averyhorton@gmail.com
