VOTE Eileen Ordway Client-Employed Providers Vice-President of SEIU 503. 503 wasn’t there when I needed them. I am running to make sure 503 is there when you need them. I want our union to champion workers. I believe our union faces challenges requiring us to be informed advocates as we go forward. In 2020, we face unique and unexpected difficulties. We need to roll up our sleeves to change the direction of our union and get it back on track. The incumbent, during the last 8 years, has refused to demand 503 provide fair representation assistance to workers finding themselves in conflict with a public employer such as the Department of Human Services. Individuals in each bargaining unit, regardless of dues paying or not, have the expectation of 503 providing individual legal help to him or her instead of ignoring very real instances of public employer interference with or coercion of workers. 503 refuses to confront public employer misconduct with consistency and determination. The incumbent engaged in favoritism over the last 8 years that denied individuals, like myself, the opportunity to express opposing opinions she disagreed with to the detriment of workers. The incumbent, during the last 8 years, has interfered with the rights of directors to invite individuals from their districts to Home Care Council Meetings by denying directors the procedural process of voting. My time in various elected positions showed me first-hand how far removed the incumbent is from taking worker frustrations seriously in resolving issues they face. As a member of the Home care Bargaining Team, I witnessed the attitude of the incumbent that we should be grateful for crumbs offered by the State. The incumbent ignored the State interference with or coercion of workers. The incumbent engaged in favoritism excluding some individuals from being heard regarding public employer interference or misconduct harming workers. My service in various elected positions brought to my attention the colossal failure of the incumbent to ensure every individual received proper attention and assistance to identify and present cases of public employer contract and law violations to the Employee Relations Board or a Circuit Court. I understand how to address the behaviors of public employers who are unreasonable and arbitrary in manipulating rules they are required to follow, but don’t when engaging in misconduct. Fellow member now is your opportunity to reboot 503! VOTE Eileen Ordway Client-Employed Providers Vice-President of SEIU 503.
