Ibrahim Coulibaly

My name is Ibrahim Coulibaly and I am asking for your vote for SEIU 503 Vice Presidency (Public Sector). I became a member of SEIU in 2015, as Oregon State Hospital staff in Junction City. Shortly after we opened, my coworkers and I had to face one of the most challenging times in our careers; our jobs were on the Oregon State Legislature’s budget chopping block. We made it through. Jackson County workers also went through nerve-wracking bargaining. Our union stood with them. We won! This year, COVID 19 has changed our way of life. The economic downfall of the pandemic is threatening our jobs and our health. Coronavirus public health concerns, for SEIU 503 members, are compounded by the stress of potential job loss. Healthcare, Homecare, and Personal Support Workers are selflessly continuing to care for their clients, with or without proper equipment, risking their own and their loved one’s lives, without being compensated for it. Public services, in various shapes or forms, continue during challenging times. We continue to provide Oregonians the services they deserve. Being public servants is our calling, and we deserve recognition through compensation, benefits, and job security. Difficult days are ahead of us! For Public Sector workers, 2020 is a bargaining year. We can anticipate long days and nights of stressful negotiations. The furlough at the University of Oregon reminds us of the need for a better contract that protects our jobs during slow economic times. More than ever, you need a strong leader. I am that leader! Homecare workers need better job protection, safer working conditions, and improved benefits, that cover their health needs and provide income stability. These will be my priority! I was a caregiver for four years. Multiple leadership positions within SEIU and in my community have prepared me for this moment. I was a steward, General Council Delegate, and SEIU Contract Specialist. Just before I left my former agency, I got elected VP of my sublocal. I am the President of SEIU Afram, Co-Chair of SEIU Civil and Human Rights Committee, SEIU Finance Committee member, Human Rights Commissioner for the City of Eugene, and President of Lane County NAACP. I will fight for an inclusive organization, regardless of your ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, country of origin, and political orientation. You have the choice! Vote for a strong and diverse leadership! Vote for me! Ibrahim@Ibrahim-Coulibaly.com  541-606-3007
