Mary Stewart

My name is Mary Stewart – I am the current SEIU503 Statewide Treasurer. I was elected two years ago to the Executive Governing Team as Treasurer. My role as Treasurer has been to: Chair the Finance committee, present financial and investment reports to the Board as well as funding recommendations for approval. I also take part in the Budget review and presentation to General Council. During the past two years: I’ve also participated in decisions regarding the purchase of the Portland Forum Building which will be our new home for Portland operations and, the restructure of our budget. As Treasurer I am one of two officers which sign the US Department of Labor LM-2 filing, the official financial disclosure report, each year. As an Officer and Board member I attend all Board meetings and vote on all matters coming before the Board in its governing role. Taking on the Treasurer’s responsibilities requires knowledge, time, energy and commitment. I’ve demonstrated that I possess all these. Leadership doesn’t stop at the door but is a daily part of life. Going forward I have three primary goals: 1. Creating greater transparency around our financials, 2. Increase the level of financial reporting to the Board, and 3. Improve efficiencies between our sub-locals and the Accounting Department. I also want to hear from members on how to make the union more beneficial and a better resource for them. I currently work at Department of Revenue as a Tax Auditor, my background is in accounting and I spent seven years as a financial credit analyst for Dunn & Bradstreet. I have an education in Accounting. My union experience encompasses Steward, Sub-local President and Chief Steward, five time bargaining delegate for Specials Coalition and Central Table. I’ve been Co-chair for the last four full contracts. I also sit on the Arbitration Screening Panel. I’m vested in representing; the financial interests of the membership, governance through the Board and, working with others to lead your Union. I have been honored to serve the membership in this capacity. I’ve currently been endorsed by: 20 members of the Board of Directors and others. I’m now asking that you elect me to the Statewide Treasurer position one last time. When your ballot arrives, please vote and return your ballot before the deadline. Thank You for your participation and vote! Mary L Stewart
