McCarthy, Shelly – State APD: Candidate for Assistant Director

Vote Joy Vegar Director for Board of Directors and Shelly McCarthy Assistant Board for Directors for Region 3

We are excited to announce that Joy Vegar is running for Director and Shelly McCarthy is running for Assistant Director on the Board of Directors for Region 3. Joy Vegar and Shelly McCarthy together have 30 years of experience as members of SEIU 503 Homecare Local 99 have served as Co-Directors as well as General Council Delegates for SEIU 503 Local 99. Joy Vegar has also served as an Assistant Director for South-West Oregon SEIU 503 Board of Directors (BOD) for two terms, and as Director this last term. This experience has enabled Joy to become knowledgeable about serving on the Board of Directors. Joy has also been a long-time SEIU 503 Local 99 Union member and has a passion for human and civil rights, language justice, and cross- sector coordination. In addition, Joy has served on the homecare council as a District Director for several terms. Shelly McCarthy and Joy Vegar have been an effective team working together.
Shelly McCarthy has also served as an Assistant Director for South-West Oregon SEIU 503 Board of Directors this last term, being on the BOD was an exceptional learning experience. In addition, Shelly has had the privilege of providing care for older adults for over 18 years, an underserved segment of rural communities and has a passion for we believe our healthcare systems are broken. Along with our union family we will fight against Medicaid cuts and the devastation that could occur if those possible cuts are put into place. If the unthinkable does happen, care provider hours could be decreased. Therefore, less care and Medicaid funding for those receiving Medicaid could cost lives and cause community devastation.
Joy Vegar and Shelly McCarthy also believe that it is important to have a voice on the SEIU503 Board of Directors for our Southern Oregon rural communities to advocate for the constant need for more rural resources. It is essential to come together in unity and work together for the future and betterment of our union SEIU503. Moreover, true leaders do not divide, they create unity, which is the most important cause of any organization to counter discord and to progressively move forward to better our lives.
