Note: The information in this post is accurate for SEIU 503 nursing home members at Avalon nursing homes only.
If you work at a different nursing home, information about your October raise is here.

We know that when we join together in union, we can make a difference! We proved this last year, when over 4,000 of us united and demanded contracts that were “More Than the Minimum.” Our unity and resolve paid off– we won strong four-year contracts that continue to lift standards for nursing home workers across the state.

And now it’s time for Nursing Home workers to see our 2018 October pay raise.

The total raise this year will be $0.47, effective October 1, 2018.

With last October’s $0.71/hr raise, that makes a total increase of $1.18/hr so far in this contract!

But our work together isn’t done! Winning strong union contracts is only one of the ways we can win improvements for ourselves and our families. That is why we are launching an ambitious legislative Care Agenda. Over the course of the next year we will be organizing care workers across the state to win on:

  • Childcare: Restoring funding for Employment Related Day Care, so working families can afford childcare.
  • Stable homes: Sky-high housing prices put enormous pressure on workers and our families. We need affordable, accessible housing solutions.
  • Paid Family & Medical Leave: No one should lose their job or all their income when they have a baby or a family member gets sick.
  • Immigrant rights: 25 percent of care providers are immigrants. The care system depends on new American immigrants being treated fairly.
  • Making corporations pay their fair share: We need public investment in the “care economy,” and that means corporations have to pay their fair share.

Together, we can create build power for everyone who gives and receives care, and build a “care economy” that works for everyone.
