Members help set contract goals and elect bargaining teams to help negotiate over new and existing contracts with employers. When we’ve reached an agreement with the employer, union members also vote on their contracts.

Members contribute to CAPE (Citizen Action for Political Education), which is the political arm of our Local. We make phone calls and knock on doors to make sure we elect state officials and legislators that will work with us, and we continue to hold them accountable by lobbying in Salem. CAPE has helped us improve Medicaid reimbursement rates for nursing homes, increase CNA staffing ratios, all of which has enabled us to provide better care for our residents.

SEIU 503 is a democratic, member driven union. Members make decisions on the direction of our union, elect who represents them on our Local’s Board of Directors, and elect a group of delegates to General Council, which is the governing body of SEIU 503.
