On June 24, 1982, nearly 20,000 garment workers rallied in Columbus Park, carrying banners and picket signs. Afterwards, the crowd marched through Chinatown. As union leader Katie Quan recalled later, “It was an exhilarating moment. Thousands upon thousands of Chinese immigrant women had come together to stand up for themselves.”
