This is the landing page for the Interrupting Oppression (112) workshop that is part of SEIU 503’s OEI Series. It discusses the impacts of racism, sexism, ableism, and homophobia on labor and strategies for dealing with them.

Workshop Summary: 503 is committed to building inclusive and equitable union spaces because Unions are formed to better the lives of workers by empowering them politically and economically. Solidarity among workers is the key to Union power. The bosses and ruling class use white supremacy, misogyny, ableism, and homophobia to convince workers that our interests are in direct competition with each other so they can attack the source of our power: solidarity.

To protect and expand our Union solidarity, this workshop will:

  1. Explore how equity and inclusion are central to the labor movement,
  2. Review different strategies for interrupting oppression (e.g., tracking and bystander interventions), and
  3. Give us space to practice and think through interventions in different situations.
