In 2017, SEIU 503 members at Curry County received their first and only pay increase in nine years. They’ve returned to the table for a contract re-opener on wages and healthcare and are determined to move forward. Wages and benefits have been stuck at levels comparable to 2014, forcing many members to work second jobs in order to make ends meet. Curry County employees are the lowest paid county employees in the state, and we know that low pay leads to high turnover and reduced service quality. Curry County deserves better.
Currently, members are in mediation and the County has made minimal movement, offering a meager $1000 bonus for the entire year. Members have had enough and are preparing to strike in late August.
