Congress is proposing drastic cuts to Medicaid – thus far more than $880 billion – to pay for trillions in tax cuts for the very rich.

Medicaid is a vital program that pays for healthcare and care provider services for our state’s most vulnerable residents: people of all ages living with disabilities and working families. Cuts to Medicaid would leave tens of thousands of people in our state stranded without healthcare or a care provider to help them get through everyday life.

Federal Medicaid dollars are critical to Oregon, making up nearly 30% of the state’s budget, including funding the jobs of public service workers who provide social services, benefits services, education services, and more. Let us be clear, these cuts could have a DEEP impact on upcoming State and Higher Education bargaining campaigns. We need to take action!

Union members across the country are uniting to tell Congress “NO” to Medicaid cuts by calling their elected representatives and holding rallies to send a message to Washington, D.C. To win at the bargaining table this year and improve workers’ lives, we must win at the federal level to ensure our state’s budget remains healthy.
