Bargaining Update: October 18

Hello Everyone,

Thanks to the recent actions that workers have taken, we’re keeping the momentum up at the bargaining table, and would like to share our wage proposal with you today.

Portland is one of the most expensive cities in America, and has an extreme housing shortage, and because of that, and because of that almost a third of PPS Custodians and Nutrition Services workers can’t afford to live in the Portland metro area. This wage proposal was created in direct response to what workers need and deserve.

Our Wage Proposal Highlights

  • Longevity pay for both custodians and nutrition services.
  • Hazard pay for custodians who work through snowstorms to keep schools safe.
  • No loss of sick time in a future pandemic, which PPS agreed to implement for other classified staff.
  • Healthcare equity for part-time staff who are uninsured. PPS already offers healthcare to other part-time classified staff in the District.
  • We deserve to be assigned a worksite for the year and have a transparent process for transfers and vacancies. We are part of our school communities and should not be moved unnecessarily.

See the tables below for a visual breakdown of how our wage proposal could impact your salary.
