After waiting months for the Senate to vote on the HEROES Act or introduce new COVID-19 recovery legislation, Senate Republicans just unveiled the HEALS Act, which is wholly inadequate and has no new aid for state and local governments. Without increased funding for the state, Oregon’s budget will be in a crisis point. That will make this recession and this pandemic worse.

Instead of helping to protect and support workers, the HEALS Act would provide immunity to corporations against claims from workers who contract coronavirus through work. So no PPE and no hazard pay, and you also can’t hold your employer accountable if you get sick.

The next federal COVID-19 recovery legislation must include:

  • Adequate funding for state and local governments
  • Sufficient Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all workers
  • Hazard pay for all essential workers, including homecare providers
  • Additional funding for all public schools, with no strings attached

Please, take a few minutes to email your Senators and tell them to pass the HEROES Act, a $3 trillion COVID-19 recovery package passed by the House of Representatives to help support workers and local communities. CONTACT YOUR SENATOR TODAY!
