Layoff notices for Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) workers were issued on July 7th – it’s important to note that although some managers received notice earlier, represented workers are protected under SEIU-won policy changes, thus, the process is slightly different.
The Oregon Department of Transportation has confirmed that some maintenance shops will close, although specific locations and the full impact remain unclear. Seniority rights will apply, and bumping across job classes and locations is likely to happen before layoffs occur.
We will not stop fighting for workers – SEIU 503 is working with ODOT and the Department of Administrative Services to pursue alternatives to layoffs and will share with you more details in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, we have compiled a list of resources for workers affected by layoffs and discussions about ODOT we are having at the bargaining table, which you can find by clicking here.
