For more than two decades, I have had the privilege of caring for Oregon’s most vulnerable residents. Along the way, I learned something no book could ever teach me.
I am not here because I learned about Home Care from a book. I am here because I am a Home Care Worker.
I know what it feels like to wonder when your paycheck will arrive while your bills cannot wait. I know the physical and emotional exhaustion that comes with caring for others. I have grieved the loss of clients who became family. These are not stories I have heard. They are experiences I have lived.
That is why I am asking for the honor of serving as your Vice President of Home Care Workers.
Home Care Workers deserve a stronger voice in the decisions that shape our contracts, our working conditions, and our future. We deserve clear communication, meaningful representation, and a union where every member knows they belong, every voice matters, and every worker is treated with dignity and respect.
Beyond my work as a Home Care Worker, I have had the honor of serving as Co-Director of the SEIU 503 LatinX Caucus, a member of the SEIU 503 Immigration Committee, and an advocate for inclusive communities and human rights. These experiences have taught me that leadership is not about titles. It is about listening, serving, and ensuring every member has the opportunity to be heard.
Home Care Workers don’t just care for people. We help people live with dignity. That work deserves more than gratitude. It deserves respect, strong representation, and a union that never forgets the people who make care possible.
When Home Care Workers have a strong voice, our entire union is stronger. Together, we can build a future where every caregiver knows they belong, their work is valued, and their union stands beside them.
When Home Care Workers are respected, our Union is stronger. When our voices are heard, our future is stronger. And when we stand together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.
