Bruno, Mykal – Oregon Supported Living Program: Candidate for Assistant Director

My name is Mykal Bruno, and I am asking for your support as Assistant Director for Sector 7, Private Non-Profit, on the SEIU 503 Board of Directors.

I have been a proud member of SEIU Local 503 since September 2013. During that time, I have grown from knowing little about being in a union to becoming a dedicated union leader. I currently serve as Vice President of Sublocal 902 and have been a Steward for several years. I have served on the bargaining team through three contract negotiations and am currently working alongside my fellow members as we prepare for our upcoming bargaining session.

Outside of my union roles, I work as the Administrative Assistant for the Supported Living Program at OSLP. Every day, I see the commitment of the Direct Support Professionals and nonprofit workers who provide critical services to Oregonians. They deserve fair wages, quality benefits, and the respect that comes with the essential work they do.

My commitment to advocacy extends beyond the bargaining table. I have traveled to the Oregon Capitol to lobby for legislation that impacts our members, including House Bills 3838 and 2150. I also serve on the SEIU 503 Private Non-Profit Council, where I am working with members across our sector to strengthen our voice and advance our shared priorities.

If elected, I will continue fighting for increased funding for the private nonprofit sector so that workers receive the wages and resources they deserve. I will advocate for policies that strengthen our workforce, improve retention, and ensure nonprofit employees have a strong voice both at the Capitol and within our union.

I believe leadership means listening, communicating openly, and standing alongside members when it matters most. I would be honored to represent Sector 7 and bring my experience, dedication, and passion for our union to the Board of Directors.
