DeJarnac, Cristal – PPL PSW: Candidate for Statewide Vice President – Care Provider or Other
To me, Vice-President is not just a title — it's a responsibility I take very seriously. At any moment, every day, I know I am representing the 70,000 workers of SEIU 503.
I started my journey into union leadership back in 2018, when I became a Homecare Director for Central Oregon, CAPE Co-Chair for Region 6, and Assistant Director for Region 5 on the 503 Board of Directors. Since then, I have had the pleasure of serving two terms as the 503 Board Region 5 Director, CAPE Secretary, Homecare Steward, Homecare Chief Steward, and now Homecare President. I've led the last three Homecare Bargaining Teams as Co-Chair and am looking forward to this next one.
Throughout this journey, the one thing I have learned is: it's not about me. It's about those 70,000 other people we represent. I tell all our Homecare leaders the same thing — I'm not in this for personal gain. I'm here to help others and make things better for our Workforce and our Union. I am here because it is my "Purple Passion".
Taking on the job of Vice President for Care Providers is an opportunity to link workers together. I want to make sure Care Providers — Homecare, Personal Support, Nursing Homes, DSPs — are working together to "Invest in Care". And I want to work alongside our members in State and Local Government, who often deliver these services, so we can be a powerful voice for the work we do, the services we deliver, and the Oregonians we support. My experience means I can jump in ready to lead and unite this work.
One thing to know about me: throughout my life, I have always been the go-to person. I'm the fixer, the problem-solver. I'm not afraid to take on a fight. I'm the one people come to when they need the job done. My leadership and values speak for themselves. I don't just talk the talk — I walk it too.
