Horton, Avery – State APD: Candidate for Statewide Secretary
Vote Avery Horton for Statewide Secretary!
I am asking for your vote for Statewide Secretary because I believe every member deserves a union that is Honest. Open. Transparent. And Accountable.
I need your help to get into the rooms where decisions are made. That's where we make sure every decision starts with one question:
"How does this help the members?"
The Statewide Secretary plays a critical role in protecting our union's democracy. This position ensures that meetings are properly documented, decisions are accurately recorded, and members have access to the information they need to participate and hold their union accountable.
Our union represents more than 72,000 workers across Oregon. Every member deserves confidence that their voice is recorded, decisions are documented accurately, and important information is available—not hidden behind unnecessary barriers.
As Homecare Secretary/Treasurer, I have already demonstrated the skills this position requires. I created a monthly early-warning report that helped ensure Homecare never lost its rebate. I regularly shared important union documents with members, including LM-2 financial reports and "Know Your Rights" information, and explained what those documents meant. I also helped strengthen our Homecare contract by securing a late-payment penalty requiring the State to compensate workers when they were paid late or incorrectly.
As a 503 Board Director, I was usually the only NO vote to giving your dues away.
With my background in managing information and systems, I understand that accurate records, accessible information, and clear communication are the foundation of accountability.
As Statewide Secretary, I will bring that same commitment to accuracy, transparency, and member communication. I will work to ensure meeting records are complete, important documents are accessible, and members can clearly understand the decisions being made on their behalf.
Access to information is a member right, not a privilege.
If it were up to me…
503 would be a union where members do not have to search for information—they can easily find it.
503 would be a union where members receive facts, not spin, so they can participate fully in their democracy.
503 would be a union where every member knows their concerns are heard and their voice matters.
But it isn't just up to me.
It's up to you!
If you believe our union needs leadership that is Honest, Open, Transparent, and committed to putting members first, I respectfully ask for your vote.
Vote Avery Horton for Statewide Secretary!
