Mears, Daniel – DMV: Candidate for Assistant Director

I am proud to announce my candidacy for Assistant Director of the ODOT Coalition Board of Directors. I bring nearly seven years of experience working with ODOT at DMV, along with a strong and active history of union leadership and advocacy within SEIU 503.

Throughout my time with ODOT, I have been deeply involved in our union, serving as both a Union Steward and Contract Action Team (CAT) member. I have participated in multiple union steward trainings and union leadership courses, strengthening my ability to represent members effectively. In 2024, I was elected Vice President of Sub-Local 735, and I am honored to have been reelected to this role in 2026. I also served as a General Council delegate in 2024 and will again represent members at General Council in 2026. These leadership roles have strengthened my ability to advocate effectively, represent member voices, and collaborate across agencies.

In October 2025, I expanded my experience by serving six months as a Member Organizer Committee (MOC) organizer with SEIU 503. Following that role, I transitioned into a Contract Specialist position, where I currently work with the public sector, including ODOT, while continuing to serve as Vice President for DMV Sub-Local 735. Additionally, I served on the ODOT Coalition bargaining team during the 2024 contract cycle and will again serve on the bargaining team in 2026. These experiences have given me valuable insight into both frontline member concerns and the complexities of contract negotiations and policy.

I have also advocated at the state level, including visiting the Capitol and speaking directly with state representatives to secure funding for ODOT Coalition budgets. Through my work and union involvement, I have established strong working relationships with ODOT Coalition agency leadership, allowing me to collaborate effectively and represent member interests with credibility and professionalism.

I am running for this position because I believe it is essential that both ODOT and DMV employees have representation on the ODOT Coalition Board. As the only DMV candidate in this race, I am committed to ensuring DMV has a strong and active voice at the table. At the same time, I work closely with all ODOT agencies and will represent the interests of the entire coalition with fairness and dedication.

With my experience, commitment, and passion for advocacy, I am confident in my ability to serve as an effective and collaborative member of the ODOT Coalition Board. I would
