Notdurft, Shaun – Oregon Supported Living Program: Candidate for Director
Hello, I am Shaun Notdurft and I am running for Director of Sector 7, Private Non-Profits. I have been serving on the SEIU 503 Board of Directors for a long time, in addition to my roles in Local 902 OSLP, where I currently am President, Chief Steward, and Bargaining Delegate. I helped form our union here in 1993 and have been active ever since.
I am wanting to serve this term primarily due to the anticipated funding crisis we are likely going to be experiencing soon. It is going to be my mission to engage in direct action in the Capitol to ensure that the services we provide survive, and that we are treated fairly. Being involved with the Private Non-Profit Council affords us an opportunity to coordinate ourselves into a position of advocacy. It is my belief that the direct involvement of members is where our union is strongest, applying our collective power together for change. To achieve this, each non-profit sub local must be member-driven for better organization. Then, through the Council, we can operate in solidarity. This council should be the vehicle where workers guide the Director and Assistant Director for our input on the board.
In addition to the political work, my intent is to share ideas between our locals, to support each other in contract fights, to engage with other locals across the state to build better member involved efficacy of our larger 503 Union, and to actively provide a private non-profit presence across caucuses, committees, and governance. I believe our voices are poised to be heard!
Fundamentally in life, I operate in a mindset of creativity. I am a musician and writer, and it is through an artist's lens that I problem solve. I believe in finding common ground and pathways through divisiveness. Inclusion is a goal, in all spaces for all points of view. It would be my honor to represent this amazing and diverse employment sector on the board. I pledge to be transparent, to be active, to listen to and involve members, and to be giving my best to being a leading element of building our sector for ourselves and each other. The term that is now ending has seen some construction in this regard, and with that I ask for your vote to continue and expand the work.
