Ragozzino, Max – Dept of Agriculture: Candidate for Statewide Treasurer
I’m Max Ragozzino, Ph.D., running for statewide treasurer of SEIU 503 on the Member Led Future slate. I am a scientist by training. My doctorate is in entomology, specifically the study of invasive insects. In my studies and duties, I primarily write grants and reports. I analyze large datasets to highlight trends, outliers, and draw fact-based conclusions. At the Department of Agriculture, I am responsible for acquiring funding for my team, primarily through grant writing and reporting. In our union, I have served as the Agriculture (sublocal 603) President since 2022. I believe these skills have equipped me to serve our union well as a treasurer.
If you vote for me, you are voting for a more supportive and transparent union. Our power comes from unity, backing one another, and creating a collective front. If elected, I will take a clear look at our financial books, as a newcomer to statewide office. All of us deserve to fully know where our dues are being spent. As your treasurer, that will be my number one priority.
Over the last few years, there has been tremendous turnover in this position. Members tell me they have mistrust in where their dues are spent. If elected, it is my goal to have a fully independent audit performed, outside of the regular audit process. Processes and financial structures should be reviewed to ensure they are built for accountability. I will hold regular, detailed meetings to ensure all members have full confidence and faith that their dues are being spent for their benefit.
As treasurer, I will have the courage and tenacity to fight on your behalf. I promise to ensure the health of our strike fund, and our emergency fund to ensure that members are protected from mismanagement. We must spend funds in ways that provide a return on investment.
