Sarmiento, Noemi Osorio – PPL PSW: Candidate for Director

I am NOEMI OSORIO SARMIENTO. I have been a Personal Support Worker (PSW) in Gresham, Multnomah county and a union member for over 9 years. I am SEEKING YOUR VOTE to continue my second term as Board Director to be a voice for HOMECARE SECTOR 8! DO SELECT ME AS YOUR 1st choice! I also served on the Board's Executive Committee.

During my term, I obtained strong representation for our Spanish speaking Latinx membership, such as being part of the creation of the immigration committee to provide support with Know Your Rights workshops, immigrant rights coalition legal advice as well as the assignment of a SEIU 503 staff to organize Union resources and coordinate the implementation of immigration trainings for our immigrant Union members.

As Union member leader I have served in the Women of Color Caucus as Treasurer, as District 1 Director for the Homecare Council Sublocal 99.

I am a SEIU 503 Board General Council delegate and co-authored a General Council Resolution to create a committee where members from all sectors can come together to have a voice, study and debate global economic and political issues that affect all members of our union to come together in Solidarity to fight those who divide us.

I have been active in our political program door-knocking for our CAPE endorsed pro workers’ candidates as well as giving testimonies to Oregon Legislators on the impacts of the Medicaid cuts to consumers and workers.

As a Homecare worker I represented our Union in many coalition events, for example, in the work with AFL-CIO Conference and as a delegate in Astoria , as Board member during the International Union (IU) Congress in Philadelphia.

My most proud moment is helping many of my co-workers with problems with the OHCC such as lack of payments, problems with timesheets, and how to access PDC (Professional Development Certificate) training to obtain qualifications to earn more money. I ran in the Sublocal 99 elections to be part of the homecare contact negotiations for 2027 because I believe that representation is very important in our union, especially so that Latino members know their union rights and benefits, such as fair wages, and where to find support to navigate the state system.

I ask my fellow union members to VOTE FOR ME for Homecare Sector 8 Director!
