Thompson, Tracy – DCBS: Candidate for Director
My name is Tracy Thompson and I am asking for your vote to represent the Specials Coalition on the Board of Directors of SEIU 503.
I have been active in SEIU for over 20 years. I have been a steward for most of those years, an elected officer including president in sub-local 440 or 10 years, the Chief Steward for my sub-local, a bargaining delegate for 5 contracts, served on the Central Table bargaining team, I have assisted stewards in many sub-locals, and recruited many new members.
Outside of my Union activities, I am a head coach for Special Olympics of Marion County and teach the athletes how to advocate for themselves.
I am running for this position because I want to represent our coalition on the board. The Specials Coalition has the largest number of sub-locals with the most diverse job descriptions, yet we seem to be the quietest. I want to change this. I have held many positions during my state career (both blue collar and white collar) and want to use these experiences to be sure we are all heard.
I also want to make the system more transparent. Members should know topics that will be presented at the board, giving them the opportunity to attend when possible. If it isn’t possible, I want them to contact me with their questions or opinions. This is the only way this position can truly represent the coalition in the important decisions made by the Board.
I promise to be your voice and represent you to the best of my ability. If you have any questions, I hope you will reach out to me. I am happy to talk with you.
The SEIU Board of Directors makes very important decisions about the direction of the Union and how it is run. If you want transparency and a voice at the table, please vote for me, Tracy Thompson, as your Specials Coalition Director.
Thank you.
