Willman, Joy’e – PPL PSW: Candidate for Director
My Name is Joy'e Willman. I am currently the Vice President for the Care Sector part of 503, but as my term ends, I'm asking for your vote to fulfill a seat at the SEIU 503 Board as a (HCW) Director. The seat is referred to as the Client Employed Providers seat sector 8.
This my 28th year belonging to this union, i am currently a PSW and have been a Homecare worker too. I have dedicated my life to making sure all care providers have a decent contract and that we are represented on the Board, General Council, CAPE and the Legislature.
I helped to create Local 99 Homecare, and I am the only one that's been at every Homecare Bargaining table. I know how to fight for our rights, wherever needed.
Continuity, Loyalty, honesty, making history, I speak up for those who can't, continue to fight when others can't continue to fight. Creating new ways to solve existing problems, thinking outside the box. It's important to bring issues and facts to the Board so we can be heard, working to solve any problems we have. I speak to facts while still being empathetic and always striving to help strengthen our weakest links.
Going forward I would like to see us build up our union by becoming more diverse and equitable so that all members feel welcomed and heard.
Some of my experiences include:
Current Vice President of Care sector
Current Rules committee Chair
Current Chair of General Council Resolution Committee
CAPE secretary
Homecare Secretary/ Treasurer
Homecare Historian /Steward
Created Veterans Caucus
Homecare Bargaining
Helped to create Carewell Trust
Been to every General Council since 2000
Been to a lot of Rally's, Lobby Days, and interviewed candidates
Testified in Oregon Capital, fighting for our rights.
Represented Homecare in Pittsburgh, Detroit, Los Angeles and Washington D.C.
We need to build this union, and I want to help mentor those newly coming into the union to help make our union stronger.
Let's build on gains we've made and continue to grow as the union that cares for ALL members. Our struggle is real, especially now. I want to be at the forefront of making our union strong and united to weather the storms ahead.
Vote Joy'e Willman for sector 8 Director.
