Bargaining Update for July 27, 2021: It’s time to talk money.

On Tuesday, July 27 our homecare bargaining team met with the State and presented our proposals to win hazard pay, paid time-off, wage increases and establishing a wage scale.

A proper wage scale is when you get an automatic pay increase every year, which ensures that your pay goes up the longer you do the job. It isn’t just about higher pay, but also about respecting the time we put into our work and acknowledging that our skills and experience are valuable.

These “economic proposals” are among the top priorities in bargaining this year.

“We see a real opportunity for significant gains in our economics, our team is committed to lifting up the care economy and helping create a better system for both providers and consumers.” –  Patty Falkenstein, personal support worker, bargaining co-chair

Homecare workers are essential and it is time the state recognizes the imperative work we do to keep our communities safe. Please join other homecare workers in cities across Oregon to demand the State to protect us, respect us and pay us! Click here to find an action near you.

In addition to the economic proposals mentioned above, we continue to push the State to protect workers from harassment and abuse. If you haven’t yet, please sign our petition calling on the State to provide better protection for workers while they are on the job in people’s homes.

We meet with the State again on August 3rd to continue contract negotiations.
