Homecare Workers Get A Raise, But The State Stalls On Promised Retirement Plan
In 2019 Homecare workers won a landmark retirement plan in our last contract. The state will not meet its obligation to implement the plan on time, but our Union made sure workers will still get the money they’re owed in the form of a raise. READ MORE

Statewide Officer Nominations Now Open
The election for SEIU 503 Statewide President, Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, and Executive Director began accepting nominations on June 29, 2020. SEIU 503 is a democratic, member-run union. July 1 Was Homecare National Day of Action
COVID-19 shocked the world, and as a union we immediately shifted gears to respond to it. We’ve responded to protect our workers, but we can’t ignore how this public crisis has highlighted the racial and economic injustices in our country and the fact that we still don’t have enough PPE and Hazard Pay for homecare workers. On July 1, SEIU503 care providers joined together in action to implore lawmakers to #protectALLworkers through the passage of the HEROES Act. You can help. CLICK HERE TO TAKE ACTION

SEIU 503 General Council is right around the corner!
The highest governing body of SEIU Local 503 is our General Council. The General Council holds a convention biennially in even-numbered years. At our biennial convention we adopt our budget and, through the submission of resolutions, discuss and adopt policies and goals that affect our union.

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our member-elected SEIU 503 Board of Directors have made the decision to move to a virtual event for General Council this summer, rather than in-person.

Member delegates for General Council were elected by their fellow members earlier this year, and will be attending the event, which begins on July 31. Look for more information about the outcome of General Council in an upcoming newsletter next month.

2020 Special Legislative Sessions Update
The Oregon Legislature is convened last month for a special session to address police accountability and COVID-19 response. It’s important to know that budget adjustments related to the pandemic were not considered during this special session. State leaders are waiting to see what the next federal recovery package contains to avoid making unnecessary cuts to agency budgets.
